Colonial Creek North Campground

This campground is just off Hwy 20 on Diablo Lake, with a fishing pier and boat launch. $

Goodell Creek Campground

In old-growth forest on the banks of the Skagit River – a good choice for fishing and floating. $

Gorge Lake Campground

A primitive campground in the Ross Lake section, near Diablo Lake with access to Stetattle Creek. $

SKAGIT WHITE WATER

Although it doesn’t offer the heart-in-the-mouth white-water runs of less-tamed waterways, the dam-controlled Upper Skagit River in the Ross Lake section of the park makes for a good introductory trip for beginners or families. You’ll float through old-growth forest, surrounded by craggy peaks, with plenty of opportunities for wildlife watching. The approximately 9-mile stretch is rated Class II to Class III. About halfway through the run are the S-Bends, a set of three Class III rapids in a row, after which the river is calm enough to look around and enjoy the scenery until the takeout.

Access the river via a boat launch near Goodell Creek Campground at Mile 119 on Hwy 20. The takeout is at Copper Creek near Mile 112.
